Operations on this line:

Some brief history on the Waterford Subdivision.

"The Waterford Subdivison was abandoned between mileage 41.0 and 61.0 and between mileage 63.7 and 78.9 on July 1, 1989. At the same time, the Waterford Spur was abandoned from mileage 0 to 1.1. The Waterford Spur was originally part of the Waterford Subdivision until the new connection with the LE&N Simcoe Subdivision was activated in 1984. At that time, the Waterford Subdivision ended at the LE&N Junction switch located at mileage 78.9 and the balance of the mainline to Waterford (mileage 78.9 to 80.0) became the Waterford Spur (mileage 0 to 1.1).
By this time, operation of the Waterford Subdivision between mileage 61.0 and 63.7 had been turned over to CN who were servicing CP's remaining customers in Brantford and utilizing the track to connect the severed ends of their own Burford Subdivision., Aberdeen Yard was not closed in 1989. In October 1996, the Assistant Terminal Supervisors were relocated from Aberdeen to Welland Yard. At the same time, the crew reporting location for local and through train movements in Hamilton were relocated to Kinnear. At this point, Aberdeen changed from being a marshalling yard into a bulk transfer facility. The 8 track Car Shop and associated structures were demolished and the current Steel Care Warehouse facility was constructed. Every other set of tracks in the North Yard were removed to create roadways in between the remaining pairs of tracks to create a plastic transfer facility. The South Yard was deemed surplus and the rail and switches from #3 to #14 South were removed. Much of the rail from the south yard was used as relay rail in other locations and many of the switches were utilized in SK Yard in Buffalo, N.Y. After the fact, it was deemed that too much of the South Yard had been removed and six new stub tracks were constructed off of #2 South for the storage of Steel Care traffic. Lance Brown."
