Traffic movement on this line:

Rule 105 Territory - Not to exceed 15 mph on entire trackage.

Points of interest along this line:

Mile 19.5 (Hewitt) : Hewitt Road, Wainfleet : This is located at Hewitt Road as stated south (east) of north siding switch Welland. The trackage from this point eastward is used a lot for storage of autoracks and mixed freight between trains. Welland yard Job 2 uses this trackage also to back off of the CP Hamilton Subdivision to head west on the former CN/CP Caso Subdivision to head for Port Maitland.

Mile 23.5 (Perry) : Perry Road, Wainfleet : This is a small community called Perry, a few miles west of CP Welland yard. There once was a station here at one time.

Mile 30.38 (Connecting Track) : Young Road, Dunnville : At this point you are at the Jct. to the CP Dunnville Spur from the CP Caso Spur next to the former E&O diamond.

Operations on this line:

The CP Caso Spur is the same trackage as the CN/CP Caso Subdivision between mile 19.5 and 30.38, but CP purchased this segment outright from CN back, in early 2001.
The reason behind putting rail traffic back on this line after CSX was pushed off of the line in 1995 or 1996 was that CP wanted to abandon the CP Dunnville Spur between Smithville and the E&O diamond; the diamond being 5 miles north of Dunnville where the CN/CP Caso Subdivision crossed.
CP built a connecting track in the southeast segment of the diamond, cutting off traffic from ever heading west past this point on the old CN/CP Caso Subdivision, This connecting track as of May 2001 now connects to the already existing CP Dunnville Spur, which takes you through Dunnville and on down to Port Maitland. The CP Dunnville Spur was immediately torn out between Smithville and the E&O Diamond.
As mentioned why there was never a switch put in between the CP Caso Spur and the connecting track to the CP Dunnville Spur... which was once the TH&B Dunnville Subdivision was because the rail line hadn't seen rail traffic since either February or March of 1996.
On May 8, 2001 a CP ballast train went down the CP Caso Spur to the new Connecting track to finish connecting the track to the CP Dunnville Spur, resulting in the CP Dunnville Spur northward from the area of the E&O diamond cut from any service, via the switch off of the CP Hamilton Subdivision at Smithville, next to Industrial Park Drive.
The following day I was there to see the first train pull cars bound for Port Maitland, come around the connecting track just after 11am on a bright sunny warm morning. I was out there to catch the event on 35mm film.
The CP Caso Spur officially begins at Hewitt Road, but the line runs all the way south (east) down to a switch just a few hundred feet west of south siding switch Welland.
The portion of the line on the east side of Hewitt Road is the CP Welland Connecting Track, but known as either Receive 1 or receiving 2 track. Which one, escapes me.
CP Welland yard Job 2 once exclusively operated on the CP Caso Spur to the CP Dunnville Spur on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, unless there is a holiday on one of those days and therefore they would go Tuesdays and Thursdays or any other set of days during the week. The other days of the week, Welland yard Job 2 went to work within CP Welland yard or go service industries at Smithville.
In the Welland area, there were crews who came from Conrail and TH&B. Crews who had seniority to run trains on the track they had been on previously to joining CP, continued their area of trackage rights. By the late 2000's all of the yard crews had retired and Toronto crews started working at Welland. The job times and hours changed and is now hard to decipher when thing happen. Sometimes the CP Welland yard job services Port Maitland during the day, and sometimes during the middle of the night.
Back to the 1990's and early 2000's when Job 2 was ready to leave Welland for Port Maitland, they would get a work clearance to work between mile 23 and north connecting track switch Welland because the switch points from the CP Hamilton Subdivision to the Welland Connecting Track face east. The train had to pull off of the siding at north siding switch Welland and onto the CP Hamilton Subdivision and then back down the CP Hamilton Subdivision onto the CP Welland connecting track then head west across Hewitt Road onto the CP Caso Spur. These days the new crews and job do the same thing.
When Job 2 returned and the present operations ran back to Welland, they pull east past the switch on the Welland connecting track with a work clearance in hand with the same work limits of mile 23 and north connecting track switch Welland, then back out onto the CP Hamilton Subdivision across Hewitt Road, then pull across the road into the siding at north siding switch Welland.
Job 2 used to leave around 7:30 - 8am and return around 11:30am. As mentioned above, I have no idea when the present job operations go down to Port Maitland.
Back when Job 2 operated, they told me they save about an hour or so since the CP Caso Spur reopened because there were so many speed restrictions on the CP Dunnville Spur north of the E&O diamond.
The Welland connecting track, as mentioned, is just a segment of the old Caso Subdivision on the east side of Hewitt Road which runs from Hewitt Road to the switch called the south connecting track switch Welland, which is just west of south siding switch Welland. South connecting track switch Welland connects to the CP Hamilton Subdivision, with switch points facing east.

These photos are of the location of the former water tower that was located on the northwest side of the river that passed under the old line back in trhe pre Penn Central days, east of Hewitt Road.
At the end of March of 2013, I went looking for it and found a foundation of concrete in the ground buried in the trees.
You will see moss covered concrete. I believe that was it.
